Performer Profiles

MARGY MANFIELD

The former lead singer for various rock bands during the 1980s and early ’90s, Margy Manfield is now is one of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular solo performers. Her bright, breezy personality and straight-from-the-heart delivery wows audiences of all ages. With a repertoire covering classics from the 1940s to the 1990s, this polished performer and national recording artist will have you singing and dancing the night away. Favourites include songs by the Carpenters, Bette Midler, Joni Mitchel, Patsy Cline, Amy Grant, Linda Rondstadt, Dusty Springfield, Sade and Janis Ian.

BRIAN CARLON

He also plays solo gigs throughout Australia on piano or guitar with vocals. Appealing to a fan-base aged from 18 to 80, Brian’s range, flexibility and experience as a musical therapist provides him with the freedom to deliver an extensive musical repertoire.

JULIAN JONES

With a repertoire including a strong dose of the American songbook plus some Latin standards and reharmonisations of popular tunes by various artists, Julian Jones brings his own distinctive style to all his musical gigs. He is a superb nylon-string guitarist and fine vocalist whose skills have been honed over years of professional performances in a wide variety of jazz, Latin, pop and rock styles. He has worked extensively in both Australia and the USA.

LARA-JANE THOMPSON

Since late 2008, has focused on recording and performing her originals, as well as developing a deliciously diverse repertoire of cruisey, acoustic covers of beautiful or unusual songs from the 1960s through to now. Influenced by artists such as Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Jack Johnson and Eva Cassidy, Lara-Jane admits to being enamoured with “the whole jazz/funk/blues realm” but also writes and performs songs well outside those categories. Singing is her main thing, but she also plays keyboard and guitar.

MICHAEL MORGAN

A young singer-songwriter who won the Noosa Jazz Festival Star Search Competition in 2012, Michael Morgan has a passion for music of yesteryear - Ray Charles, B. B. King and Elvis - but is equally inspired by modern artists such as John Mayer, Ed Sheeran and Amy Winehouse. Michael performs with a unique vocal style, comprising smooth, soulful tones with an edgy growl.
